After years of working alongside individuals, families, and the broader community, we have developed strong connections with mental health professionals, clinicians and support groups in Lake Macquarie and Newcastle.
Finding mental health support shouldn’t cause anxiety. We built Connected to Care to be a one-touch online mental health resource. Anyone in Lake Macquarie or Newcastle can find relevant, local support services for themselves, or someone they are supporting.
Connected to Care is the culmination of a long-held dream of the Lake Macquarie Suicide Prevention Network (LMSPN). The dream was to make it easy for people in and around the Lake Macquarie and Newcastle areas to access professional, experienced and understanding mental health support services online, and at a time when they need it most.
Founded in 2009 by Faye and Brian Hawley, LMSPN soon drew in locals who had lost a loved one through suicide. The goal was to educate and help people struggling with mental health issues and suicidal ideation, and support families who are grieving after suicide.
With support from Wesley LifeForce, LMSPN established remembrance events and activities, shared information at markets and community events, and raised funds to develop Mental Health Awareness and support Suicide Prevention Training.
After years of working alongside individuals, families, and the broader community, we have developed strong connections with mental health professionals, clinicians and support groups in Lake Macquarie and Newcastle. These are people and organisations that we know and trust, who genuinely help people in crisis.
Lived experience tells us that navigating the minefield of mental health support is challenging for anyone. If you’re sleep-deprived, frightened, depressed or fragile, the discovery process can be even more difficult. Sometimes it may seem overwhelming, but this is where Connected to Care can help.
Our mission is to reduce the impact and incidence of suicide in the Lake Macquarie and Newcastle regions. We believe everybody deserves the right to access mental health care when they need it. By enabling easy access to local support services, we remove the barriers people may face in finding and accessing support, and positively impact our community by connecting people to care.
